In Snippets of the Truth: You and Self, author Katie L. Dargan uses the phrase Body Man for the physical, sense-driven side of a person. When the Body Man is in charge, the False-Self rules and the hidden man of the heart is pushed to the background.
The book describes very clearly what this looks like in everyday life. These five signs gather some of that description into a simple snapshot.
1. The five senses behave like gods
Dargan writes that the five senses have become “their gods” and “the portals of sin” in many lives.
A life ruled by Body Man constantly follows what sight, taste, touch, sound, and smell approve. If something looks pleasant or feels good, it is pursued almost automatically. Genesis 3:6 is central in the book at this point, where the woman saw that the tree was good for food and pleasant to the eyes, then ate.
When this pattern becomes normal, the inner spirit does not lead. The senses do.
2. Identity is built on the false world the Body Man creates
In Snippets of the Truth: You and Self, Dargan recalls realizing that she had been “living in a world of illusions and falsehoods” that her Body Man had built through earth bound choices.
The Body Man creates an entire inner world, shaped by material things and physical sensations. A person in that state becomes “earth-oriented”, relating primarily to the “earth plane existence” and thinking of this world as home.
When the Body Man is running a life, identity is drawn from that false world. Status, possessions, and bodily comfort quietly define what life means.
3. The “spirit of the mind” is contaminated
The book explains that the Body Man and its false concepts contaminate “the spirit of one’s mind”. Ephesians 4:23 is quoted to show that the mind itself is not the problem; it is the spirit of the mind that must be renewed.
A life ruled by Body Man often looks intelligent and capable on the surface. Yet Dargan notes that such a life can also be deeply misleading. Good jobs, pleasant houses, and social status can all become props for a False-Self that thinks “more highly” of itself than it should.
Where the spirit of the mind is contaminated, thoughts gradually align with the course of this world rather than with the will of God.
4. Fleshly works and habits sit in the driver’s seat
The book links the Body Man and False-Self directly with the “works of the flesh” listed in Galatians 5:19 to 21. These include adultery, fornication, uncleanness, drunkenness, and many other patterns of behavior that “shall not inherit the kingdom of God”.
Dargan observes that such habits can exist even in religious settings. Some hold church offices while nicotine, sexual sin, or other fleshly practices remain untouched. In those cases, the Body Man is still in control, even when the outer language is spiritual.
Where the Body Man rules, these habits are defended, excused, or hidden rather than brought to death.
5. The inner war is active but the Body Man keeps winning
Romans 7:23 is one of the anchor scriptures in Snippets of the Truth: You and Self. Dargan identifies the “law in the members” that wars against the law of the mind as the law of the flesh and the five senses.
The book explains that this law has “led us around and kept us captive to the lusts of our flesh”. When a person begins to work on unrighteous habits, the adversary is exposed. The Body Man resists surrender and the conflict intensifies.
A life still ruled by Body Man feels that war, yet continues to follow the same flesh driven patterns. The False-Self remains in charge, even while the spirit protests.
A picture drawn from Snippets of the Truth: You and Self
These five signs are drawn directly from Snippets of the Truth: You and Self by Katie L. Dargan, a work that treats the Body Man and False-Self not as abstract ideas but as very real influences inside every person.
Throughout the book, she treats these signs as evidence that the Body Man still holds authority inside. Her message presses toward a single concern. The hidden man of the heart was created in the image of God and belongs under the rule of Christ. The Body Man, with its earth bound desires and false world, must be brought into submission so that the true person God intended can finally live.
